Timeline of Life

IMG_1463We are now studying the timeline of life. I found this super great timeline over here at Discovery Moments. IMG_1461 (Above) Dinosaurs: A Visual Encyclopedia by DK.I printed out the timeline, laminated it, and paired prehistoric toobs and other animal toobs with it. I also added a volcano object, tree object, and plant object. I made a felt microorganism.IMG_1469We keep all the animals and plants in a basket.IMG_1465The objects can be matched to the timeline as the child sees fits. Some objects match up directly with animals on the timeline. Other objects have to be added by inference.IMG_1470 I made cards to accompany the timeline. The cards can be used with or independent of the timeline.

The Three Sets of Cards

1.Descriptions of events

2. Period Title Cards

3. Era Title Cards

The period cards can be laid out according to era and then matched up with the description cards.IMG_1473I also made a control chart for the oldest to use to match the descriptions of the periods to the period title cards. The chart can then be used as a control chart for checking matches made independent of the chart.IMG_1471I punched holes in the corners of the timeline pages. Then I tied the edges together with yarn. The chart folds into a stack (great space saving). Thanks Discovery Moments for sharing this beautiful timeline!
