So, on the last day, we journeyed to the Louvre. After a breakfast of omelets and crepes of course!Besides being an integral location in the Da Vinci Code :) , the Louvre houses some of the most prized artifacts of our world. Not only that, it’s a beautiful piece of architecture. The Louvre used to be a palace and was later transformed into a museum once the royalty, namely Louis XIV, decided to make the Palace of Versailles his permanent home. The Palace of Versailles is a beautiful place. I visited there about eight years ago. We actually planned to take the kids there as well, but unfortunately, it’s closed to the public on Mondays. Maybe next time! When we arrived at the Louvre, we were welcomed by one of the longest lines I’ve ever seen. Fortunately, the large courtyard served as a fabulous playground for the kids. They ran around, explored, examined, and were very anxious to get inside.

Once inside, we immediately went searching for that famous painting…The Mona Lisa! I still can’t believe I saw it up close! My oldest said, “Look, I think she’s smiling!” What beautiful paintings we discovered at the Louvre. It’s one thing to have studied the paintings in an art history class or out of a book, but an entirely different experience to see this works in person. Then we saw the Venus de milo (pictured above).

And the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Once we resume school, I plan to do a unit on Paris, France. I think we’ll dig into the construction of the Eiffel Tower, and the history of other landmarks and works of art. I think I’ll use our photos to make three part cards for the work.Pictured Above: The oldest posing with three well-known philosophers of old (Plato, Socrates, and Aristotle!) Can’t wait to talk about those guys. Among them, some fellas which shared the belief that the earth was round at a time when it was commonly thought that the earth was flat. After observing the Lion, my oldest insisted on taking charge of the camera. Pictured below is a photo he took of his dear old mama. We’ll probably need to make another trip to this museum when the kids get older! What a blessing to get to see such beauty up close! I thank God everyday for this life of ours!
